Corruption and Vengeance and Cruelty…Oh My!
This isn’t an administration. It’s a freak show.
The Gadfly felt a lot of things about the election, but surprise wasn’t one of them. After all, never underestimate the lust of Americans to inflict pain on people they don’t like. Cruelty is the Point isn’t it? As Adam Serwer put it so eloquently in his essay, “President Trump and his supporters find community by rejoicing in the suffering of those they hate and fear.”
There was never any doubt about the way this was going to turn out. The first few days of this freak show has put the sadistic joy of his enablers and supporters in full view. Like those gathered around a lynching, the grinning and laughing are emblematic of a fractured social fabric that Trump and his accomplices exploit for their own unending quest for power and money. How long before we see selfies in front of the detention camps?

Like all things Trump, it’s an enormous con. A ploy to make the powerless feel powerful while they loot the country. Because, dear friends, they want it all. While everyone struggles to make ends meet, feed their families and have some semblance of a life, Trump’s billionaire cronies need to create an enemy to distract everyone from the real reason for those struggles. The massive transfer of wealth to the top.
President Lyndon Johnson once put it in racial terms: “If you can convince the lowest white man that he’s better than the most accomplished black man, he won’t notice when you pick his pocket.” It’s a tried-and-true strategy of the ownership class. Make no mistake, Donald Trump serves only the interests of the ownership class.
Take a look at this motley collection of bootlicking stooges led by racist acolytes chosen for one quality only: unquestioning loyalty to Donald Trump; the constitution and morality be damned.
Sexual assaulters, admirers of murdering dictators, even a defender of human traffickers and drug dealers. Aren’t you just proud to be an American where everyone has a chance to get ahead?
Be cleareyed about this: Donald Trump is a Sadist. He genuinely enjoys watching his victims suffer. He enjoys watching his stooges inflict pain. And he especially enjoys it when his acolytes stand up and cheer.
